Client Testimonials
The Asleep-in-12 method is underpinned by four principles
Sleep is nourishment
Sleep is essential to an infant’s brain and cognitive development, immunity, physical health and stress response. Sleep is in and of itself essential nourishment to a baby. It is in your baby’s best interests to enable them to sleep through the night.
Fed is best
The number one reason a baby wakes at night is because they’re not getting enough food during the day. Often breast-feeding mothers don’t produce enough milk for a full feeding so they have to keep feeding at regular intervals day and night. In this program we encourage bottle or formula top-ups for those mothers who aren’t producing enough breast milk. This can be a sensitive topic and often comes down to the parent’s belief system. I respect a mother’s decision to choose and I do not advocate for one method or the other. I simply share the principle that the baby must be getting enough food, in order to sleep and sleep is in-and-of-itself essential nourishment to the baby.
Babies will learn what you teach them
You’ve probably been told a baby cannot be trained to sleep until they are 3 months old. This is not true. The hundreds of babies I’ve worked with who are peacefully sleeping through the night from as early as 6 weeks of age are evidence of this. Babies will learn what you teach them and the earlier you start, the less time there are for bad sleep habits to form.
Happy parent, happy baby
Your baby’s health and happiness are intrinsically linked to yours. Imagine the difference it’ll make to your baby, your relationship and your entire postpartum experience if rather than feeling exhausted, barely able to think and still wearing the same clothes from two days ago, you and your partner wake up feeling rested, clear-headed and ready to take on the day, all because you’ve helped your baby learn to sleep through the night.
Good Sleep Begins Before Birth
The guidelines and the method do change as the baby gets older. This is why I say good sleep begins before birth. The best time to begin preparing is in your third trimester. This gives you the perfect amount of time to prepare a conducive sleep environment, to have a feeding and sleeping plan for hospital and a hospital to home transition plan.
